Roblox Shirt Template Checker Tile Size: A 64-Pixel Preview Test
Changing checker tile size changed the measured contrast of a fine line, even with the same 64-pixel preview size. Across every background offset, our one-pixel source stroke ranged from 0 to 42 strong-contrast pixels with 2-, 4-, and 8-pixel tiles. A two-pixel stroke never reached zero; its range widened from 83–99 on 2-pixel tiles to 62–120 on 8-pixel tiles. These are pixel counts from our saved Shirt files, not human-visibility or avatar-rendering results.
Here “strong contrast” means Euclidean RGB distance of at least 128 from the matching blank checkerboard. We chose that cutoff for this test; it is not a Roblox requirement.
Measured results at one fixed preview size
We made two transparent 150 × 150 source PNGs, each with a centered red diagonal. Only source stroke width differed: one versus two pixels. We imported and downloaded each through this site's Shirt editor at 45% Image size. Both saved files measured 585 × 559 pixels. We cropped the same 128 × 128 FRONT square from each export; Roblox Creator Hub identifies FRONT as a 128 × 128 panel.
For each export, we smoothly reduced the crop to 64 × 64 pixels and composited it onto white/charcoal checkerboards. We tested tile widths of 2, 4, and 8 output pixels, sweeping every distinct x/y phase of each pattern: 16, 64, and 256 offsets. That makes 336 previews per Shirt export, 672 in total. Source artwork, editor setting, crop, output size, colors, scaler, and cutoff stayed fixed while tile size and phase changed.
| Checker tile | Offsets tested | 1 px stroke: strong-pixel range | 1 px: zero-count offsets | 2 px stroke: strong-pixel range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 × 2 px | 16 | 0–42 | 4 / 16 (25%) | 83–99 |
| 4 × 4 px | 64 | 0–42 | 8 / 64 (12.5%) | 70–112 |
| 8 × 8 px | 256 | 0–42 | 16 / 256 (6.25%) | 62–120 |
In this controlled set, the one-pixel line's mean was 21 strong pixels for every tile size; the two-pixel line's mean was 91. The equal means hide different phase behavior. For the one-pixel stroke, the zero-count share fell from 4 ÷ 16 = 25% to 16 ÷ 256 = 6.25% as tiles grew. For the two-pixel stroke, the minimum-to-maximum span rose from 99 − 83 = 16 to 120 − 62 = 58 pixels. Those comparisons use every unique pattern offset at each tile size, not selected examples.

These PNGs are 64 × 64 pixels. Browser or device zoom can change their displayed appearance.
How to check your own Shirt design
- Download the Shirt PNG after finishing your artwork. Use that exact saved file for every comparison.
- Check its FRONT panel at full size for faint edges or broken lines. The official FRONT panel is 128 × 128 pixels.
- Create small previews from the saved FRONT crop over the backgrounds that matter for your design. Keep preview size and scaling method constant when comparing backgrounds.
- If a detail fades, widen or simplify it in the source, export again, then repeat the preview. Compare both versions under the same conditions.
- Test the final clothing in Roblox Studio on a Block Avatar rig before relying on its appearance in 3D.
A zero-count offset can still contain faint red pixels below our chosen threshold. This test does not tell whether someone recognizes the line at native display size.
Method and limits
The browser experiment used the editor's import and Download PNG controls for two fresh exports. From each 585 × 559 file it cropped x = 128–255 and y = 191–318. Chrome Canvas smoothly drew that square to a 64 × 64 output above each checkerboard, and a matching checkerboard without artwork supplied the baseline RGB values. We counted output pixels where √(ΔR² + ΔG² + ΔB²) ≥ 128. The earlier 4-pixel offset study tested one tile size; this experiment tests three sizes at every distinct phase.
The conclusions apply to this red diagonal, these two widths, this editor's saved PNGs, and synthetic white/charcoal previews. They do not establish human recognition, behavior for letters or curved art, or Roblox Studio appearance. The reproducible browser script and all 672 readings are retained with the project.
