Roblox Shirt Template Curved Outline: A 64-Pixel Preview Test

A thin curve retained measurable contrast in every tested checker placement, while a thicker curve produced much more. In our saved Roblox shirt template previews, a one-pixel red circle yielded at least 29 qualifying pixels on white/charcoal and 16 on cream/slate; a two-pixel circle yielded at least 217 and 176. This is a pixel test, not a claim about human recognition or avatar appearance.

“Qualifying” means RGB distance of at least 128 from the same blank background. This cutoff is our analysis choice, not a Roblox requirement.

What the saved exports showed

We drew two original 150 × 150 transparent source images, each with a red circular outline of radius 25 pixels centered at (75, 75). Their strokes were one and two source pixels wide. We imported each into this site's Shirt editor, set Image size to 45%, positioned it on the FRONT panel, and downloaded the actual 585 × 559 PNG. From each saved PNG we cropped the 128 × 128 FRONT square at x=128, y=191 and smoothly scaled it to 64 × 64 pixels.

For each export we placed the preview over three color pairs. The checker patterns used four-pixel tiles; we swept all 64 x/y offsets in an eight-by-eight phase grid. Solid white served as a control. For each preview pixel we measured Euclidean RGB distance from the corresponding blank background pixel and counted distances of at least 128. That made 2 exports × 3 backgrounds × 64 phases = 384 measured previews.

For the thin circle, the white/charcoal range is 52 − 29 = 23 pixels; the cream/slate range is 24 − 16 = 8. Both avoid a zero count in this phase grid, unlike the earlier one-pixel diagonal comparison. That difference is specific to these shapes, placement, and cutoff. It does not establish that every curve is clearer than every diagonal.

The two-pixel circle's weakest cream/slate phase has 176 qualifying pixels, eleven times the one-pixel circle's minimum of 16. Counts increase partly because the wider source draws more colored area. They measure signal area under this rule, not perceived quality. Solid white gives the highest counts here, but a pattern can still help inspect transparent space.

Repeat the check for your own curve

  1. Draw your curve on a transparent source image and keep an exact copy. Make a second version with only its stroke width changed.
  2. Import each into the Shirt editor with the same scale and position. Download both PNG files; compare saved exports.
  3. Crop the same FRONT square from each export. Roblox's Creator Hub lists FRONT and BACK as 128 × 128 regions.
  4. Choose one preview size, scaler, pattern, and contrast rule. Sweep the pattern placement; record the smallest count and the range.
  5. Inspect at native size with people, then test the saved Shirt PNG on a Block Avatar in Studio for garment appearance. The pixel count alone does not answer either question.

Limits and sources

This browser experiment used a red circular outline, one editor placement, 64-pixel smooth scaling, two checker color pairs, and one RGB threshold. The 64 offsets are the complete tested phase grid, not sampled users. We did not run a blinded recognition study or Studio rig test. The original generator and full per-phase readings are retained in the project audit.
